You know that classroom that everyone hates being next to? The classroom where there is always so much noise? The classroom where the kids are singing almost all the time? That’s my classroom.
We start our morning by singing Teaching and so Fourth’s morning song! Check her out on Teachers Pay Teachers for some great resources! The kids come in and we sing. I can’t imagine starting our day any other way. It really puts a positive spin on the day and starts us off right. Then we have a few minutes of quiet while they are reading and working on morning work.
We sing different songs throughout the day. Anytime we are learning a new subject, I try and find a song to go with it. We also sing a Verb song, even and odd song, and basically any song you can think of. The kids BEG for these songs! They are awesome.
Sometimes you just need to say, sorry for the noise. We’re learning.

I love this! I used Flocabulary often with my 6th graders as well as other songs for Math and Social studies that I’d find online. My Jr High kids haven’t been as receptive, but I still try and sneak in what I can. I also love the idea of the sign, “Excuse the noise, we’re learning.” You totally should use that! 🙂

I think it’s great the you are “that teacher.” I have a sign in my room that says, “Sorry for the mess, we are learning here.” and I think you need one that says noise! 🙂 Lucky kids.

I love it! Sometimes, you just need to be loud! Kids need to talk and interact because their future will not be in a quiet place! Many of their jobs will be the ones where they have to communicate with many different people. It seems like you are preparing them for that day! 🙂

We didn’t sing, but my classroom was always the noisy one too. I don’t trust a silent classroom! At least not all the time! I like a noisy, active, busy space where students are clearly engaged. And I love all the different songs you have them sing. Such a good way to learn!

I am too shy to get my middle schoolers to sing. It can be done, but only with HUGE enthusiasm from the teacher. However, I love how much my daughter learned from song in early elementary. It really is a great way to remember things–we even made up a song about my phone number for her.

I love the joy in your post! It reminded me of a story though. When I taught kindergarten, I would play “Sunshine on my shoulders” every day after lunch to help the kids calm down. One day, the OT from across the hall came over looking pained. She begged me to stop playing the song. Oops. Lol.
